Guys, if 10 is highest then 9 is my rating for this photo (Sumit of Windy Gyle). I can't figure out why it keeps showing a rating of 3...! It is one of the most relevant photos in the whole gallery. Nice work, David Gruar!

Well done for interesting pics, compass bearing of view would help.

I see a photo of a snow hole. Is that some lee slope on the Cairngorm plateau? If that is early January then it looks as though february and early march may be a better time for snow-holing?

This is in Coire an t-Sneachda, at roughly NH995036. http://davidgruar.fotopic.net/p11083572.html gives a better idea of context. This was a very mild and wet January, and the Cairngorms were almost devoid of snow by this time, but our guide took us to this spot where she knew there would be enough for snow-holing. If you look at the map you can see that this little ridge points due north, and the east slope is directly opposite the steep west face of Cairn Gorm; it must therefore both be very sheltered and get virtually no direct sunlight. So if you want the best chance of building a snowhole early or late in the season this is the place to come, but you'd certainly have more options in February or March. Equally, there's probably more snow at this time of year most years, but you can't rely on it.

Unfortunately we only made it round to Robinson, before the rest of the day washed off Alison's arm and we had to abandon the walk (well OK, the 70mph wind and rain my have had *something* to do with it...)

I like the composition. I wish there was something or some body to show scale

Having just completed the Forcan Ridge myself, including getting into pretty bad trouble on this wee descent, I was delighted to see that there was someone else sufficiently daft to make that descent. I have never been closer to falling off anything. Brian D Allingham 17 May 2009

David Like the photograph of my old playground very much. I hope you don't mid but I have made an external link to your site's photographs from Wikipedia, especially Llyn Cwmffynnon. All this is doing is presenting a photograph from your site using your website, no copies have been made. Wikipedia is a public domain Encyclopedia and we are just ordinary people editing article out here we are not paid. You probably know all this already. I didn't have a photo of the site to hand so I defered to your site. If this is a problem, I can reverse it immediately. The URL is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llyn_Cwm-y-ffynnon Best regards.
